Café littéraire is one of the oldest renovated riads in Marrakech.

Dar Cherifa is an ancient residence in the old city that has been restored by a well-known figure in Marrakech, Abellatif Aït Ben Abdallah, whose mission is to restore the ancient architecture of Marrakech so they can be enjoyed and appreciated by all travellers with a love of architecture.

Dar Cherifa oldest of riads in Marrakech

Passionate about the architecture of this ancient city, classified as a World Heritage Site by Unesco, he set about restoring riads in Marrakech  at a time when Marrakchis were more interested in moving out to the new areas.  Ancient walls could crumble with no-one paying attention to the loss of historical monuments. He began restoring one riad, the first in a long series, and so began a work of patience dominated by one single idea: to share his love for these ancient residences and to preserve the historical architecture of Marrakech.

Modern travellers can drop by for some Moroccan mint tea or order a meal.

Lori Park, Sculptor living in Marrakech

Marrakech is city vibrant with creativity and artistry. Many artists have made their way here and have contributed much to the creative spirit of Marrakech.

One such is US artist Lori Park whose work is now showing at a Sotheby’s sculpture exhibition “Beyond Limits” set in

Chatsworth House. Her spectacular sculpture Silk Weaver is a huge bronze work showing a larger than life female form with wire torso that is beautiful and elegant even in that spare medium. You can sense the femininity from the angled posture of the bronze mesh torso. The allure of the female form is enhanced with a gorgeous blue ball gown that cascades to the ground. The brilliant blue is a gorgeous flash of colour in the green surroundings of the park. In spite of its huge size and the weight of the material, the sculpture gives a feeling of lightness and romance.

Evening bag Atelier Nihal boutique in Marrakech

Atelier Nihal is a perfect example of the blend of European design combined with Moroccan skills. It has been around for 11 years.

The designer, Marion Verdier, designs and produces traditional and bespoke hand-woven fabrics on traditional hand looms. The difference between her work and what is made in the suqs in the old city of Marrakech is the more contemporary way of mixing textures: leather, beads, wool …

The looms can produce fabrics from 60 cm to 2 meters wide and is sold by the linear meter. The workshop produces very high quality items made from the fabric. Many prestige hotels have ordered accessories from Atelier Nihal including the Mamounia Hotel, Palais Namaskar, Four Seasons Hotel …

Atelier Nihal also works with a lot of interior designers.
